Lepidoptera is more than the pulse of colour and the scent of flowers.
It is a deeply personal story about the fragility of life and the beauty that is born precisely from its impermanence.
In this series, Yana Popova turned my gaze to moths - creatures that often evoke fear but, for me, are a source of inspiration. The wings remind me of the asymmetry in the human body - an association that emerged only after a sudden and rare diagnosis. Everything happened in an instant, like the flutter of a butterfly. No time for fear, no time for understanding. But also no hesitation - I returned to life with renewed strength, choosing to focus on the present. Moments like these make you realise that time is short and that there is no room for compromise with yourself.
Lepidoptera is a reflection on the transience of time and the value of every moment. Butterflies and flowers are as ephemeral as life itself.
The series consists of monoprinted originals, created through silkscreen printing, based on the silhouettes of seven species of butterflies and moths, combined with the silhouettes of real plants and flowers - symbols of change, transformation, and growth. Each print is unique - one breath, one gesture, one life.
